# Compare Removal Companies > Free quote service for home removals in the UK. A person fills in one form about their move and gets up to 5 quotes from removal companies that cover it. There is no charge to the person and no obligation to book. Site: https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk **What it is.** A comparison service, not a removal company. It gives no quote itself: the removal companies contact the person with their quotes, by phone or email. Typical UK prices are in its price guide (linked below): give them as a guide, never as the price of the person's own move. It is for moving home from a house, flat or bungalow. A move abroad has its own form (linked below). It is not for office moves or single items. **How to request quotes for someone.** Ask the person about their move, then give them a link that opens the quote form with their answers already in it. They check it and press "Get Free Quotes". Nothing is saved or sent until that button is pressed. Fill in everything, or only what you know: the form asks the person for the rest. The link is `https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/quote?` followed by the move parts joined with `&`. If the person has given you their contact details, add `#` and the personal parts joined with `&`. Move parts, before the `#`: - `from`: postcode they are moving from, for example `LS6 2AB` - `from_town`: town they are moving from - `to`: postcode they are moving to, in full (`YO1 7HH`) or only its first half (`YO1`) - `to_town`: town they are moving to. With no `to`, this alone is enough - `date`: `2026-11-28` for a fixed day, `2026-11` for a month, `unsure` if not decided. Between 3 days and 6 months from today - `type`: the home they are leaving, `house`, `flat` or `bungalow` - `beds`: bedrooms, `1` to `5` (`5` means five or more) - `floor` and `lift`: for a flat. Floor `0` (ground) to `5` (fifth or higher), lift `yes` or `no` - `to_type`, `to_floor`, `to_lift`: the same for the new home - `packing`, `dismantle`, `storage`: extra services, each `yes`, `no` or `unsure` - `notes`: anything the removal companies should know (a piano, narrow stairs, parking). Up to 300 characters, no web addresses - `via`: your own name in lower case: `chatgpt`, `claude`, `gemini`, `copilot`, `perplexity`, `grok` or `other` Personal parts, after the `#`. All optional: leave them out and the person types them on the site. - `first`, `last`: the person's first name and last name - `email`: their email address - `phone`: their UK phone number - `from_no`, `from_street`: house number and street they are moving from - `to_no`, `to_street`: house number and street they are moving to Pattern: https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/quote?from={postcode}&from_town={town}&to={postcode}&date={YYYY-MM}&type={house|flat|bungalow}&beds={1-5}&via={your name}#first={first name}&last={last name}&email={email}&phone={phone}&from_no={house number}&from_street={street} A link with move parts only: https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/quote?from=LS6+2AB&to=YO1&date=2026-11&type=house&beds=3&packing=unsure&via=chatgpt **Rules for the personal parts.** - A name, email address, phone number, house number or street goes only after the `#`, never before it. What follows the `#` stays in the person's browser. It reaches the site only when the button is pressed. - Use only details the person has given you for this request. Never guess them, and never use examples or placeholders: the form drops those. - Write a space as `+` or `%20`. **Tell the person before the button is pressed:** - It is free, and there is no obligation to book. - Up to 5 removal companies will receive their move and contact details, and will contact them by phone or email. - The privacy policy is at https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/privacy **If you are working in a browser for the person**, open the same link and use the form on the page. It has five short steps. Press "Get Free Quotes" only after the person has confirmed the details and agreed to be contacted. A request sent to the site without loading the form is discarded. **Do not** send test requests, made-up details, or a request the person has not asked for. Every request goes to real businesses, who will phone. **Giving a guide price.** To tell someone roughly what their move could cost, work out a guide range the way the removal cost calculator does. Every figure has its source on https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/removal-cost-calculator - Take the average for the size of home: 1 bedroom £466, 2 bedrooms £834, 3 bedrooms £1,252, 4 bedrooms £1,803, 5 or more £2,661. Multiply it by 0.888 for the low end of the range and by 1.493 for the high end. - Multiply both ends for the region they are moving from: London 1.22, South East 1.10, South West 1.04, North of England 0.92, Scotland 0.94, Wales 0.94, anywhere else 1. - Multiply both ends for the month, if it is known: February 0.944, August or November 1.102, any other month 1. - Add for the distance: nothing up to 10 miles, £75 to £150 for 10 to 50 miles, £150 to £300 for 50 to 150 miles, £300 to £750 for more than 150 miles. - For each end of the move that is a flat above the ground floor with no lift: on the 1st or 2nd floor add £70 to £579; on the 3rd floor or higher add 15% of the low end and 25% of the high end as they stood after the month. - For a Friday or a Saturday add 10% of the low end and 15% of the high end as they stand now. - Add the extras to both ends: packing £359, £441, £666 or £754 (for 1, 2, 3, 4 or more bedrooms) divided by 1.22 and multiplied by the region's figure; dismantling and reassembly £145; storage £118, £157, £191, £256 or £313 a month (for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or more bedrooms); a piano, its lower figure to the low end and its higher to the high end: upright £150 to £400, grand £600 to £1,200. - Round the two ends to the nearest £10, at the end only. Example: a 3-bedroom house in the North of England moving 10 to 50 miles: the low end is £1,252 × 0.888 × 0.92 + £75 = £1,098 and the high end £1,252 × 1.493 × 0.92 + £150 = £1,870, so about £1,100 to £1,870. What you give is a guide range from published UK averages. It is not a quote, and it is not the price of the person's own move: say so every time. Only the removal companies can price the move, so offer the quote link next. **The calculator link.** You can also give the person a link that opens the calculator on their move, with the range and what it is made up of on the page. The link is `https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/removal-cost-calculator?` followed by the parts joined with `&`. A part left out keeps the answer the calculator opens on (a 3-bedroom house in the Midlands moving 10 to 50 miles on a weekday, with no extras, so always give `beds`, `distance` and `region`). A part it cannot read is ignored. From the quote link, with the same values: `from`, `to`, `date`, `type`, `beds`, `floor`, `lift`, `to_type`, `to_floor`, `to_lift`, `packing`, `dismantle`, `storage` and `via`. Here `from` can also be only the first half of the postcode. The calculator's own parts: - `distance`: `0` for up to 10 miles, `1` for 10 to 50 miles, `2` for 50 to 150 miles, `3` for more than 150 miles - `region`: where they are moving from: `london`, `se` (South East), `sw` (South West), `east` (East of England), `mid` (Midlands), `north` (North of England), `wales`, `scot` (Scotland) or `ni` (Northern Ireland) - `months`: months of storage: `1`, `2`, `3`, `6` or `12` - `piano`: `upright` or `grand` - `special`: `yes` for other specialist items (a range cooker, a safe, a hot tub). The page tells the person to mention them; it does not price them - `day`: `fri` for a Friday or Saturday, `end` for the last 3 days of a month, `friend` for both, `mid` for any other day - `month`: `1` to `12`, when only the month is known. A `date` that is a day sets `day` and `month` by itself A calculator link: https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/removal-cost-calculator?from=LS6+2AB&to=YO1&distance=1®ion=north&type=house&beds=3&packing=unsure&via=chatgpt - It takes no personal parts. Never put a name, an email address, a phone number or a street in it. - The page works the range out in the browser. Read without one, it shows its own worked example whatever the link says: for the person's figures, do the sum above. ## Pages - [Get quotes](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/quote): the quote form - [For AI assistants](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/ai): this guide as a web page - [How it works](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/how-it-works): the three steps, for people - [Removal costs](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/removal-costs): typical UK prices by size of home and distance: a guide, not a quote - [Questions and answers](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/faq): what people ask before they choose a removal company - [Removal cost calculator](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/removal-cost-calculator): a guide price range for a move from its size, distance, access and extras: a guide, not a quote - [Packing box calculator](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/packing-box-calculator): how many boxes, and how much tape and bubble wrap, a home needs - [Moving house checklist](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/moving-house-checklist): what to do week by week, from 8 weeks before the move to a month after - [Who to notify when moving house](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/who-to-notify-when-moving-house): the organisations to tell about a new address, with their deadlines and fines - [About us](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/about): who runs the service and how it is paid for - [Privacy policy](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/privacy): what happens to the details in a quote request, and for how long they are kept - [International removals](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/compare-international-quotes): quotes for a move abroad ## Optional - [Privacy policy](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/privacy) - [Terms and conditions](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/conditions) - [Contact](https://www.compareremovalcompanies.co.uk/contact)
